40-year-old man arrested for allegedly sending death threats to Square Enix in Japan

A 40-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sending death threats to Square Enix in Japan because he lost in a game.

Japanese reports said the man emailed Square Enix threatening a “repeat of Kyoto Animation” at the company’s Shinjuku, Tokyo office (thanks, Siliconera).

On 18th July 35 people died as a result of an arson attack on Kyoto Animation in Kyoto’s Fushimi Ward.

“Give me back my money from your shit game,” the man is alleged to have told Square Enix over email. “Do you want a repeat of Kyoto Animation?”

After the man was arrested, he reportedly told police: “I was pissed off at losing in a game, so I sent the mail.” Police have yet to say which video game he was referring to, but apparently it’s a mobile game.
